My grandma is so cute. I buy her a jelly bean wind up toy each Easter and she is so amused. Last year it was a pig that oinks and poops skittles. The underlying story...this type of toy was made in the 40s-50s of tin and my grandfather had given me one when I was still "in a carriage" as Oma puts it. It was a chicken that rolled around humming and clucking while laying jelly bean eggs. I named it Henny Penny.
Congrats Izzy's Princess Frog Cake Final Project
Izalia's final day of her three week internship culminated in a presentation of her final project, a three layer chiffon cake! We were all happy to attend Sweet Cheeks Bakery (the Ace of Cakes in San Diego) even the teacher admitted it was his favorite review - he has a sweet tooth. The cake was inspired by The Princess and the Frog. With a twist, the Frog was a girl with a pearl necklace and big red lips. She created this original design and baked it under the direction of the most cheerful group of women I've ever seen working together. Her bakery mentor said it was the best first timer fondant job she had ever seen. I ate a piece of cake left over from a 6ft Elvis cake, their portfolio is pretty amazing - cakes in the shape of cars wine bottles iphone you name it. Congrats Izzy on a job well done. And big thanks to the ladies of Sweet Cheeks Bakery.
Good morning Baby Fish (video)
My 16yr old has taken up a new hobby raising baby guppies. I wonder if all of those hours of playing Fish Tycoon online lead to this. The big shock was discovering mommy and daddy cannabolize their babies, and well, you really dont know who's your babies daddy at all. The fish are born with no eggs involved and they get their pretty guppy color as they grow older. The plan is to sell them to the fish store but if we end up with any for adoption I'll let you know.

It's salmon run season on the Klamth River (NorCal near Yuba City area) and Dad has been out there giving 'em hell with his long time friend Ray, pictured left, a pro fishing guide. Fishing excursions are usually held in Bodega Bay but this was a special occasion not open to the common people. In fact a tradition each year for Dad. I joined him once a few years ago. They are serious about their fishing in this place, the men line up along the river and will get into a fist fight over their spot And sometimes steal each others fish! Amazingly we caught giant salmon using beads on a string. The rumors are true there are so many you see 10,15,20 pounders swimming by your feet as you stand in the river.The point of this story is there is a package of fresh smoked wild salmon in the mail for ME. No one does it like Dad.
