What's My True Love? Dad's is fishing on Smith River #vday

Just had a quick morning 'pick me up' chat this morning with dad. He was so happy returning from his fishing trip and his gratitude for the gift of life was infectious - in simply being and enjoying the things he really loves to do. For him it is fishing. Some background on the source of this outlook on life, one year ago he learned he had terminal cancer and according to doctors wasn't supposed to be here as of six months ago.

Makes me wonder, what do I really love? Not work not a person, what is my personal passion in life. Don't know but I will take today to be grateful and present. Maybe it will come to me.

A committment to keeping life in balance in 2010

I'm sure you've heard enough 'Happy New Year' by now, we are in day 3. No, not feeling different yet and the transition from 2009 to 2010 for me is already forgotten. What sticks on my mind is my resolution, one I do want to carry out this year. If I'd wanted a fly by night resolution I'd start exercising more (ha ha ha) so no it's not that. 2009 was a good year but as it came to a close I felt off balance. I try to keep my life, and my all to fragile mental state, in balance by filling it in the areas of mind, body and spirit. Another translation: work, health and relationships. I put most of my energy last year into work (80%!). And, while I do not want to lose momentum in my career -  I realize that I drained my resources in one area, left feeling empty. I am a true believer that people do what they want with their time, that it is a choice. "I do not have time" is an excuse for choosing to do other things with it and I'm guilty of saying this, often. This year I'm filling up the spirit bucket investing more time and energy in friends and family. My new motto "I have time for you."
