My Desk Deco: this is real life #noline
This is how my desk deco project turned out for the Gearyi office contest to win an iPad. It's real life shown in my life stream Foursquare, Twitter, Facebook and blog posts and my favorite connections personal and work with their profiles and our discussions featured, such as @gearyi replying to my tweet to @sweta_s_patel about this project (accused of crowdsourcing ha!). With artifacts from my conquests; yoga gear from the last time I checked into Yoga Lounge and became mayor, wine to represent DowntownRob's tweetphoto capturing me on our balcony unwinding at sunset, and the bread I baked, botched and blogged about last Sunday. Sure some stuff you do stays online but there really is no line. This IS real life.

5 independent thoughts from an independent thinker. Happy 4th!
This will be my last post in social media until Tuesday I'm headind for hills to unplug. And to truely unplug I cannot be your Facebook friend or join you in Twitter banter for a few days. I figured I'd better make my last post worth something. Here's what came to mind this morning as I considered the days ahead and what we all come together to celebrate this weekend. Independence.
Thoughts on Personal Independence1. Love does not = dependence but can be depended on. 2. Let it go this weekend. Anger is a cage that enables others to control you. 3. Stay in touch with yourself. Take a vacation or do something by yourself for yourself. Whether you're a slave to fashion, the mom or dad who gives it all to your children, or like me a slave to your career. Shed your role and take the time to go be you every once in awhile. It's freeing and you're better for it. By not doing this the only person you can blame for your exaustion or for holding you back from being you is you. 4. You might loose your marbles every so often, or once a day. But hold onto your golden marble, your light. That voice inside you that is drowned out by the noise. Don't ever let anyone anyone put out your light. 5. Take charge of your livelyhood. My mother taught me to never financially depend on a man. And it has proven to be good advice over and over again. Death, divorce, economy, and many other circumstances can make you wish you had.
Choosing plants for a dark room #decoproject
In the mean time I picked up a tall snake plant from Walter Anderson Nursery down the street from my home. I prefer using nurseries close to home because their plants are acclimated to the environment. In theory, lessening the chances of me killing it once I get it home. I have no idea if this has any factual standing but in my mind it sounds logical. The cute little plant on the shelf is moss. I love how his bright green color adds life to "the cave". If you are working with dark wood, contrast with lime green or light green vs. dark green or purple foliage to break up the sea of darkness. Especially on stacks of shelves where shadows cast into the wood create little dark caves. Nature created a color scheme for this, if you think about it everything that grows in the shade or in a cave comes in vibrant colors. Neon algae, bright green moss, wispy green ferns, and natural occurring minerals like amethyst. Mother Nature knows how to make it pop.
According to the helpful woman working in the houseplant nursery, both the moss and the snake plant do well in the dark. Yes! A second factor lessening the likelihood murdering them since my office has no windows or natural light. Another option for dark rooms are ferns. In my experience ferns aren't very hardy so while I love the look I know I've never kept one alive for more than a week. I took a chance on the moss instead let's see how that goes.
